How to Get to Summerfest: 2026 Shuttles, Parking, and Bus Routes
The CONNECT 1 Bus Rapid Transit line has been extended specifically for Summerfest
Summerfest is one of Milwaukee’s best summer traditions, but getting there can feel like its own opening act.
Between downtown traffic, lakefront parking, kids who “forgot” they were hungry, and the end-of-night scramble to get home, a little planning can make the whole day smoother.
For families coming from Milwaukee’s North Shore — including Whitefish Bay, Shorewood, Glendale, Bayside, Fox Point, River Hills, Brown Deer and Mequon — the good news is that you have several solid options for Summerfest 2026.
Here’s what to know before you go.
Summerfest 2026 Dates
Summerfest 2026 runs across three weekends:
June 18–20
June 25–27
July 2–4
That means the biggest transportation crunches will likely come on Friday and Saturday nights, especially for major headliners and the final July 4 weekend.
Before you go, it’s worth checking the official Summerfest transportation page for the latest updates:

Brown Deer Road East Park & Ride Shuttle
For many North Shore families, the easiest option is still the MCTS Summerfest shuttle from the Brown Deer Road East Park & Ride.
This is the most convenient shuttle location for families coming from Brown Deer, Bayside, River Hills, Fox Point, Mequon, Glendale and much of Whitefish Bay.
The MCTS Summerfest shuttles run from three Park & Ride lots — Brown Deer Road East, College Avenue and Hales Corners — with buses running approximately every 15 minutes during the nine days of Summerfest.
The shuttle is direct, which is the big win. You park, hop on, and get dropped near the Summerfest Mid Gate without having to navigate downtown traffic or search for lakefront parking.
For 2026, round-trip shuttle fare is:
$18 for riders ages 12 and up
$9 for youth ages 11 and under, seniors 65 and over, and riders with qualifying disabilities
Parking at the Park & Ride lots is free and available first-come, first-served.
The first shuttle leaves the lots at 11:30 a.m., and the last return buses leave Summerfest from the Mid Gate at 12:30 a.m.
Family tip: If you are going with younger kids, the shuttle is especially helpful because it removes the “where did we park?” moment at the end of a long, loud, fun day.
GreenLine Bus: Good for Shorewood, Glendale and Bayshore
If you live near a GreenLine stop, this can be a budget-friendly option.
The GreenLine serves parts of the North Shore and Milwaukee’s East Side, including the Bayshore area, Shorewood and UWM before continuing downtown and toward the lakefront.
Summerfest lists the GreenLine as one of the regular MCTS routes that can get riders within walking distance of the festival grounds.
Regular MCTS fares for 2026 are:
$2.75 for riders ages 12 and up
$1.25 for youth ages 11 and under, seniors 65 and over, and riders with qualifying disabilities
This can be a good choice if you are comfortable with a little walking and want to avoid both parking fees and shuttle fares.
Download the Umo app before you go so you can plan your route, track buses and pay without fumbling at the stop.

CONNECT 1 BRT: Downtown or the West Side
The CONNECT 1 Bus Rapid Transit line continues to be one of the easiest ways to get close to Summerfest.
CONNECT 1 stops at The Couture near Michigan Avenue and Lincoln Memorial Drive, just steps from the Summerfest North Gate. It runs frequently, including every 10 minutes on Saturdays.
For North Shore families, CONNECT 1 may make the most sense if you are:
Starting from downtown
Parking farther west and riding in
Meeting friends or family coming from Wauwatosa or the west side
Staying at a downtown hotel
CONNECT 1 uses regular MCTS fare pricing, making it less expensive than the dedicated Summerfest shuttle.

Driving to Summerfest: Convenient, but Pricey
Driving is still an option, especially if you have very young children, need flexibility, or are attending an Amphitheater show with a firm start time.
But it is usually the most expensive and stressful option.
Official Summerfest parking lots open daily at 9 a.m. Parking starts at $40 per day and is first-come, first-served. Summerfest also offers advance parking passes, but those do not guarantee that traffic will be easy or that lots won’t be crowded.
Summerfest recommends using downtown exits before the Lakefront exit and parking in downtown structures, then walking to the grounds.
If you drive, build in extra time. The streets around Henry Maier Festival Park can get congested quickly, especially before headliner shows.

What About Bar Shuttles?
Summerfest says its 2026 list of participating bar shuttles is still coming soon.
That means it is worth checking back before relying on a specific bar or restaurant shuttle. Some North Shore families have used Shorewood or downtown bar shuttles in past years, but you’ll want to confirm the details directly before making that your plan.
Questions to ask before relying on a bar shuttle:
Is it running to Summerfest this year?
What days and hours?
Is a food or drink purchase required?
Are minors allowed with an adult?
Which Summerfest gate does it use?
What time is the last return shuttle?

The Hop Streetcar: Downtown Add-Ons
The Hop streetcar does not serve the North Shore directly, but it can be useful if you are already downtown.
It’s free, family-friendly and connects several downtown areas with stops near the lakefront and Historic Third Ward. If you are staying downtown, parking downtown, or making a full day out of it with lunch or dinner before Summerfest, The Hop can help you avoid moving the car again.
Biking to Summerfest
For adventurous families with older kids or teens, biking can be a fun option.
Summerfest has bicycle parking near the Mid, North and South gates. If you are comfortable using the Oak Leaf Trail or lakefront routes, biking can be one of the easiest ways to avoid parking altogether.
Bring lights for the ride home, lock bikes securely, and plan your route before you go.
Quick Family Tips Before You Go
A few things can make Summerfest easier with kids:
Decide your transportation plan before you leave home.
Download the Umo app if you are using MCTS.
Bring a portable phone charger.
Check the weather before heading out.
Know your gate before you arrive.
Pick a meeting spot in case anyone gets separated.
If you are going for a free admission window, arrive early.
If you are attending on July 4, remember that MCTS may follow a holiday schedule.

Final Take
For most North Shore families, the Brown Deer Road East Park & Ride shuttle is the simplest Summerfest transportation option. It is direct, avoids downtown parking, and gets you close to the Mid Gate.
If you live near the GreenLine, regular MCTS service can be the best budget option.
If you are staying downtown or parking farther away, CONNECT 1 and The Hop are both worth considering.
However you get there, plan ahead, check the latest schedules, and leave yourself extra time. Summerfest is supposed to be fun — not a parking-lot scavenger hunt.
