Best Donuts in Door County, Ranked
Where do Apple cider donuts land on your list?
National Donut Day is Friday, June 5, and there may be no better place to celebrate than Door County. From cherry donuts and apple cider donuts to old-fashioned filled pastries, the peninsula has developed a genuinely strong donut culture, and members of the Door County Vacationers community helped shape this ranking with their favorites. Whether you're planning a summer trip north or just looking for a sweet stop on your next adventure, here's our ranking of the best donuts in Door County, from good to absolutely worth the drive. One note before you go: many of these are seasonal farm markets that run roughly May through October and ramp up for summer, so it's smart to confirm hours and ask what's frying the day you visit. 9. Weasel's Mini Donuts & More (Sturgeon Bay)
Start casual and fresh. Weasel's fries up hot, cinnamon-coated mini donuts to order and pairs them with some of the best fresh-squeezed lemonade around, plus a surprising lineup of ribs, pulled pork, and brisket if you want to make a meal of it. There's something about a paper boat of warm, just-fried minis that no glass case can replicate, and fans rave about both the donuts and the laid-back, family-friendly vibe. It anchors the bottom of the list only because it's playing a different, more casual game than the orchard legends above it. For a fun, freshly fried treat on a summer Sturgeon Bay afternoon, it's a winner.
8. Donuts By Design (Fish Creek)
The newcomer worth knowing, Donuts By Design is a fresh addition to Fish Creek built around a fun grab-and-go, build-your-own concept the whole family can enjoy. Kids love picking their own glazes and toppings, which turns a quick donut stop into a little hands-on activity before a day at the beach or the state park. As a brand-new shop it's still building its reputation, but the create-your-own format and family-friendly energy make it a genuinely fun stop in the heart of Fish Creek. Check current hours before you go, since new Door County spots often adjust their schedules through the season.
7. Fish Creek Bakery (Fish Creek)
Right in the center of Fish Creek, this family-owned bakery, coffee shop, and gourmet gift shop is the kind of place that becomes a morning habit for anyone staying nearby. The team bakes from scratch daily, turning out a broad case of pastries, breads, and donuts that make for a reliable, cheerful stop before a hike through Peninsula State Park. It's beloved enough that regulars will tell you to show up early and expect a short line on busy summer mornings. Grab a donut and a good coffee, and you've got the perfect start to a Door County day.
6. Grandma Tommy's Country Store (Sturgeon Bay)
Just north of Sturgeon Bay, Grandma Tommy's is a classic roadside country store packed with local charm, from homemade fudge and a dozen flavors of it to Door County cherry products and hand-dipped ice cream. The bakery counter turns out traditional, melt-in-your-mouth donuts that have earned a fiercely loyal following among travelers heading up the highway, making it a natural first or last stop on a peninsula trip. It's open daily from May into late October, with limited weekend hours in November and December, so it's a dependable warm-weather pick. Rustic, friendly, and full of samples, it's a quintessential Door County market stop.
5. Lautenbach's Orchard Country (Fish Creek)
Most people visit Lautenbach's for cherry picking, cider, and fruit-wine tastings, but the market bakery is a key stop on the peninsula's unofficial donut trail, frying up fresh donuts daily during the season alongside cherry pies, turnovers, and strudel. The family farm, now past its 70th anniversary, leans hard into local fruit, and a summer visit can mean cherry picking, live music, a playground for the kids, and a warm donut all in one stop. They even host a Summer Cherry Fest complete with a donut-eating contest. Hours and bakery selection shrink from November through April, so summer and early fall are the sweet spot. Call ahead to pre-order if you want to guarantee your donuts.
4. Seaquist Orchards Farm Market (Sister Bay)
Seaquist earned one of the most specific and immediate recommendations from locals: the apple cider donuts. That's all the explanation many donut lovers need. Made from scratch at the farm market, these soft, perfectly spiced cake donuts get a heavy coating of cinnamon sugar, and you can watch the bakery crew work through a viewing window while you shop the market and let the kids hit the playground. Seaquist is best known for its made-from-scratch fruit pies, but the cider donuts are the seasonal star, shining brightest in late summer and autumn when apple season hits. As a seasonal farm market, it's a warm-weather destination, and the donuts are absolutely worth timing your visit around.
3. Pink Bakery (Egg Harbor)
Tucked behind a Mexican restaurant on Egg Harbor's main drag, Pink Bakery has been voted Best Bakery of Door County, and its apple crisp donuts inspire the kind of devotion that has people driving in specifically for them. One reviewer called them one of the best donuts ever, full of flavor, moist, and dipped in a light glaze, and the bakery's homemade ho-ho's with rich chocolate ganache have their own loyal fans. Owner Kim Jensen's shop also turns out cupcakes, pies, danish, and breads, and you can find Pink Bakery goods at several partner spots around the peninsula too. The storefront keeps limited weekend-heavy hours, so check before you go, but the apple crisp donut alone makes it worth the trip.
2. Scaturo's Baking Co. & Café (Sturgeon Bay)
A staple of Sturgeon Bay for more than two decades, Scaturo's is the rare Door County bakery that's open year-round, which makes it the go-to when the seasonal markets have closed for winter. This full-service bakery and café bakes a massive variety of scratch treats daily, and the donuts earn raves across the board: one local swears by the square filled donut with chocolate frosting, another by the berry-filled frosted donut, and the custard-filled versions have their own following. When multiple people independently rave about completely different donuts from the same bakery, that's proof the kitchen has mastered the craft. Add famous pecan rolls before sunrise, a full breakfast and lunch menu, and a summer fish boil, and Scaturo's is the most complete bakery operation on the peninsula.
1. Wood Orchard Market (Egg Harbor)
When we asked Door County visitors for their absolute favorite donut, one answer came up again and again: the Wood Orchard cherry donuts. They're a mandatory peninsula tradition, incredibly soft, perfectly glazed, and packed with the authentic, tart Montmorency cherry flavor that defines Door County's food culture. The third-generation family market, open May through October, is a must-stop full of cherry products, fudge, jams, and generous samples, and the donuts alone justify the drive. The famous cherry donuts are fried fresh from roughly May through August, then transition to equally spectacular apple cider donuts in the autumn, so there's a reason to come back as the seasons turn. Grab a six-pack for the road and another to take home. It's the iconic Door County donut, and the clear number one.
A few notes before you go
A couple of beloved names have changed. Door County Bakery in Sister Bay, famous for inventing the sweet-and-savory Corsica Loaf, has closed its physical retail storefront to focus on its wholesale business, so you can still find Corsica Stix in stores and online but can no longer stop in for a morning donut. And Grandma's Swedish Bakery, once located at Rowleys Bay Resort, was lost when a devastating fire destroyed the historic resort in 2023, though the memories of its giant pecan rolls and cardamom-scented treats live on as a piece of peninsula history. Two more worth a mention: Sip Door County in Ephraim is a wonderful modern coffee and wine bar with fresh in-house pastries daily, though standard round donuts aren't a guaranteed part of the case, and Bea's Ho-Made in Gills Rock is a classic stop for pies, jams, and cookies more than donuts.
Plan your Door County donut run
Because most of these spots are seasonal, summer and early fall are prime donut season on the peninsula, with cherry donuts dominating June through August and apple cider donuts taking over in autumn. Scaturo's is your year-round anchor in Sturgeon Bay, Egg Harbor packs in Wood Orchard and Pink Bakery, and Fish Creek gives you Lautenbach's, Fish Creek Bakery, and Donuts By Design within easy reach. The best advice is simple: go early, since the favorites sell out.
