Lake Drive Reopens in Fox Point

Turkeys inspect Fox Point Lake Drive construction in summer 2025

Great news for Fox Point residents and commuters—Lake Drive between School Road and Dean Road is officially open again! The Wisconsin Department of Transportation has completed a comprehensive infrastructure project that brings significant improvements to this key corridor, according to a village announcement.

What's New on Lake Drive

After months of construction, drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians can now enjoy a thoroughly modernized stretch of roadway. Here's what the project accomplished:

Underground Infrastructure The project addressed critical below-ground needs, including complete replacement of aging water mains and laterals, along with upgraded storm sewer systems and drainage structures. These improvements will enhance water quality and reduce flooding risks for years to come.

Road and Sidewalk Improvements The road surface received comprehensive rehabilitation and pavement replacement, providing a smoother ride for all vehicles. Sidewalks along the corridor were upgraded to meet current ADA accessibility standards, making the route more navigable for residents with mobility challenges.

Enhanced Safety Features Safety was a top priority throughout the project. New bicycle lanes have been established at intersections to improve visibility and protect cyclists. Perhaps most notably, pedestrian-activated rectangular rapid flash beacon (RRFB) signs have been installed at six key Lake Drive intersections: Barnett Lane, Green Tree Road, Bridge Lane, Beach Drive, Fox Lane, and Dean Road. These high-visibility crosswalk signals will make it safer for pedestrians to cross this busy road.

While the road is open for use, the project isn't quite finished. Construction crews will return in spring 2026 to review restoration work and complete any remaining tasks. In the coming weeks, you'll also notice new street identification signs going up along the corridor.
