Pizzeria Di Lusso Eyes Fall Opening in Shorewood

Pizzeria Di Lusso moves closer to opening in Shorewood

A new neighborhood pizzeria is getting closer to opening on Oakland Avenue in Shorewood.

Pizzeria Di Lusso, a New Jersey-inspired restaurant from the owners of Bay View’s Sorella, is preparing to open at 4511 N. Oakland Ave. The new restaurant will take over the former Nana Asian Fusion space next to Three Lions Pub.

Owner Kyle Toner told a Shorewood committee on Sept. 9 that the restaurant hoped to open in approximately four to six weeks. That timeline would put a potential opening in early to mid-October, although an official date has not been announced.

The restaurant is expected to add something new to the already impressive collection of restaurants in our guide to the best pizza on Milwaukee’s North Shore.

Shorewood’s Judiciary, Personnel and Licensing Committee discussed the license applications during its Sept. 9 meeting and voted unanimously to recommend their approval to the full Shorewood Village Board.

During the meeting, Toner said the team was hoping to be ready in approximately four to six weeks. He noted that the timeline could change depending on the remaining work involved in opening.

What Kind of Pizza Will Pizzeria Di Lusso Serve?

According to the Pizzeria Di Lusso website, the restaurant will specialize in two New Jersey-inspired styles: Trenton tomato pies and Grandma-style pizza.

Trenton Tomato Pie

A Trenton tomato pie is a thin, crisp pizza with a slightly chewy crust. Unlike many traditional pizzas, the cheese and toppings generally go on before the tomato sauce, making the bright tomato flavor the star.

Grandma-Style Pizza

Grandma-style pizza is typically baked in an oiled rectangular pan. It has a crisp bottom and edges but is thinner and lighter than Sicilian or Detroit-style pizza.

Both styles remain relatively uncommon in the Milwaukee area, giving North Shore pizza fans something genuinely different to try. Readers interested in comparing local styles can also explore our neighborhood-by-neighborhood guide to the best pizza in Greater Milwaukee.

Who Is Behind the New Shorewood Restaurant?

Pizzeria Di Lusso comes from Kyle Toner and Paul Damora, the team behind Sorella in Bay View.

Sorella is known for wood-fired pizza, handmade pasta and Italian-inspired dishes. Pizzeria Di Lusso will have its own identity, focusing more closely on the regional pizza traditions Toner remembers from New Jersey.

The Shorewood restaurant is expected to operate as a casual, full-service pizzeria rather than a slice counter. Earlier plans called for dine-in service first, with carryout and delivery potentially added after the restaurant settles into its new space.
