Brown Deer Pond Dog Swims Return for 2026

The dog days of summer are about to get literal in Brown Deer.

After the Brown Deer Pond closes for its regular swimming season, the water will go to the dogs during a series of special dog swims in August. It is a rare opportunity for local pups to splash, retrieve toys and cool off in the pond’s one-acre, sand-bottom swimming area.

Brown Deer Pond Dog Swim Schedule

The 2026 dog swims will be held on the following dates:

• Monday, August 17: 5:00–7:00 p.m.

• Tuesday, August 18: 5:00–7:00 p.m.

• Wednesday, August 19: 5:00–7:00 p.m.

• Thursday, August 20: 5:00–7:00 p.m.

• Saturday, August 22: 10:00 a.m.–noon

• Sunday, August 23: 10:00 a.m.–noon

Admission is $5 per dog. Brown Deer Parks and Recreation also lists a six-visit pass for $25, which may be shared among multiple dogs.

Bonus Dog Swim at the Farmers Market

A bonus swim is planned during the Brown Deer Farmers Market’s Dog Days of Summer celebration:

Wednesday, August 26
10:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

Families can browse the market, meet dog-friendly vendors and then give their four-legged companions a chance to take a dip. The regular Brown Deer Farmers Market is held at Village Park on Wednesdays during the summer.

The pond is located in Village Park near the Oak Leaf Trail. Unlike a conventional swimming pool, it offers a sandy shoreline and a gradual entrance into the water, giving dogs room to wade before venturing into deeper areas.

What to Bring

Consider packing:

• A leash for entering and leaving the swimming area

• A towel for the ride home

• Fresh drinking water and a portable bowl

• Dog waste bags

• A floating ball or soft water toy

• Proof of current vaccinations, in case it is requested

• An extra leash or collar

Avoid bringing sticks or hard toys that could cause injuries when several dogs are playing in the water. Owners should also closely supervise their dogs and give extra space to animals that appear nervous or overwhelmed.

The swim is best suited for dogs that are comfortable around unfamiliar people and pets. Not every dog enjoys crowded, high-energy environments, and there is nothing wrong with choosing a quieter swimming option for shy, senior or reactive dogs.
