Halloween falls on a Saturday in 2026, which makes this one of the best Halloween years in a long time for Milwaukee-area families.

From neighborhood trick-or-treating and glowing jack-o'-lantern displays to pumpkin farms, Boo at the Zoo, spooky-but-not-too-spooky attractions and Halloween events throughout October, there are plenty of ways to celebrate.

This guide focuses especially on Milwaukee's North Shore — Whitefish Bay, Shorewood, Fox Point, Bayside, Glendale, Brown Deer and Mequon — while also including the best family Halloween events around greater Milwaukee.

Trick-or-Treating Around the North Shore in 2026

One major change this year: Halloween is Saturday, October 31, 2026.

North Shore communities have traditionally held trick-or-treating from 1–4 p.m. on the Sunday on or before Halloween, but several municipalities are making an exception in 2026 so children can trick-or-treat on Halloween itself.

Shorewood

Saturday, October 31, 2026
1–4 p.m.

The Shorewood Village Board officially approved Halloween trick-or-treating for Saturday, October 31 from 1–4 p.m.

And don't head home too quickly.

Shorewood's annual Night of the Ghost Train celebration takes place Halloween evening, typically from 6:30–8:30 p.m., with costumes, ghost stories, refreshments and special Ghost Train runs.

Brown Deer

Brown Deer staff recommended moving 2026 trick-or-treating to Saturday, October 31 from 1–4 p.m., noting that several other North Shore communities had adopted the same approach.

Whitefish Bay

Whitefish Bay's final public trick-or-treat announcement should be checked closer to October.

Because multiple North Shore communities are shifting to Halloween itself in 2026, do not rely on the Sunday, October 26 schedule from 2025.

Fox Point, Bayside and Glendale

Watch for final municipal announcements as Halloween approaches.

Mequon

Mequon has traditionally used later trick-or-treat hours than many North Shore communities, so families should verify the city's 2026 schedule rather than assuming the North Shore 1–4 p.m. time.

NSFA Tip

We'll keep this list updated as official schedules are released. In participating neighborhoods, a porch light is generally the easiest way to identify homes welcoming trick-or-treaters.

Whitefish Bay Great Pumpkin Festival

One of our favorite North Shore fall traditions gets an especially appropriate finale this year: the festival runs right through Halloween night.

Families carve pumpkins and return them to Old Schoolhouse Park, where hundreds of glowing jack-o'-lanterns create one of the Milwaukee area's best community Halloween displays.

The Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation has confirmed October 28-31 for the 2026 festival, with music, food and a beer tent each night from 6–9 p.m.

Halloween Village at Baird Community Commons

Downtown Milwaukee's Halloween Village returns throughout October.

Walk through an oversized illuminated pumpkin and explore interactive light displays featuring witches, ghosts, Frankenstein, a giant spider and other Halloween characters.

It's open throughout the month, and the illuminated displays make this an especially fun after-dark stop.

Milwaukee Downtown lists the 2026 run as October 2-31.

Jack-O-Lantern Jubilee

This is one of the strongest free Halloween events for younger families.

The fifth annual Jack-O-Lantern Jubilee brings Halloween activities, entertainment and giveaways to downtown Milwaukee.

Previous versions have included pumpkins, decorating, face painting, balloon art and other family activities, while the surrounding Halloween Village provides a built-in backdrop.

The 2026 event is confirmed for Saturday, October 24 from 11 a.m.–2 p.m.

Pumpkin Party at Davidson Park

Harley-Davidson's family-friendly Pumpkin Party brings Halloween to Davidson Park with costumes, trick-or-treating, crafts, live music and seasonal food and drinks.

There's also a giant inflatable jack-o'-lantern that should make this one of the year's easiest Halloween photo stops.

Pets are welcome, too.

Boo at the Zoo

Milwaukee County Zoo

October 16-17 and October 23-24, 2026

Boo at the Zoo changes considerably in 2026.

For the first time, the Zoo is adding daytime Saturday experiences, making the event easier for families with younger children who don't want to stay out late.

Basse's Pumpkin Fest

Pumpkin Fest offers 65+ fall attractions, making it much more than simply a place to pick a pumpkin.

Lindner's Pumpkin Farm

Lindner's provides more of a traditional pumpkin-farm feel while still packing in plenty for kids.

Buffalo Bill's is another good choice when you want plenty of activities without leaving Milwaukee County.

The farm traditionally includes more than 20 attractions such as:

The Elegant Farmer is a great choice if your family wants to combine apples and pumpkins with a fall day trip.

Its Autumn Harvest season traditionally features:

Instead of relying entirely on jump scares, Legends & Lore combines Halloween with Wisconsin history and folklore.

Halloween Haunts combines nighttime nature with a kid-friendly "enchanted forest" experience.

It's a strong choice for families who want something Halloween-themed without a traditional haunted-house atmosphere.

The 2026 event is scheduled for October 15-17.

Nine Below

Nine Below's indoor mini-golf concept becomes especially fun around Halloween.

Shorewood Night of the Ghost Train

Saturday, October 31

After trick-or-treating, head toward Shorewood's Ghost Train installation.

The Village celebrates Halloween with its Night of the Ghost Train, traditionally held from 6:30–8:30 p.m., including:

• Kids costume contest

• Ghost stories

• Refreshments while supplies last

• Ghost Train program

• Special evening train displays

The Village lists special Ghost Train runs around 8 and 8:15 p.m.

That means Shorewood families can potentially make an entire Halloween day of it in 2026: trick-or-treat from 1–4 p.m., dinner, then Ghost Train festivities.

Milwaukee-Area Halloween Houses

Some of Milwaukee's most impressive Halloween attractions don't charge admission at all.

Homeowners around the area transform yards and houses with elaborate lights, monsters, inflatables, animatronics and themed displays.
