The North Shore Library is Moving! Here’s What to Expect
The North Shore Library has been a staple in Glendale for years.
But big changes are happening.
The library is officially moving from its longtime home on Port Washington Road to its brand-new facility in Bayside. The move means we will have a "library gap" of about seven weeks where the North Shore branch is closed.
Here is everything you need to know to avoid overdue books and plan your library trips during the transition.
Key Dates to Remember
Last Day at Current Location: Friday, December 12, 2025.
Closing Time: 5:00 PM (Sharp! No returns accepted here after this time).
Grand Opening of New Location: Monday, February 2, 2026.
What About My Books? (The "Gap" Plan)
If you currently have books checked out from North Shore, don't panic about the due dates.
Due Date Extension: All North Shore Library materials currently checked out will have a due date of February 5, 2026.
No Returns at Old Location: After 5:00 PM on Friday, Dec 12, the book drops at the Glendale location will be closed and locked. Do not leave books there!
Where is the New Library?
Starting in February, our new library adventures will take place at the new "OneNorth" development in Bayside.
New Address: 711 Grace St, Suite 112, Bayside, WI 53217. (This is just off Port Washington Road and Brown Deer Road, near the interstate).
Where Can I Go in the Meantime?
Since the North Shore Library is part of the Milwaukee County Federated Library System (MCFLS), you can use your card at any other branch during the closure.
For most of us in the North Shore area, the best alternatives for returns or picking up new books during January will be:
Whitefish Bay Public Library (5420 N Marlborough Dr) – Likely the closest for many of us!
Shorewood Public Library (3920 N Murray Ave)
Brown Deer Public Library (4301 W Brown Deer Rd)
Tips for Families
Stock Up Now: If you want a stack of books to keep your kids occupied over the holiday break without worrying about renewals, go to North Shore before Friday and check them out. You won't have to return them until February!
Update Your Holds: If you have holds pending, log into your MCFLS account online and switch your "Pick Up Location" to Whitefish Bay or another nearby branch so your books don't get stuck in limbo during the move.
It’s the end of an era for the Glendale building, but we are excited to see what the new space in Bayside has to offer when it opens in 2026!
