Address: 1001 E Fairmount Ave., Whitefish Bay, WI 53217.

Hours: Village parks are open 5 am – 10 pm; pavilion rentals are 8 am – 10 pm.

Cahill Park (sometimes called Cahill Square Park) packs a surprisingly broad mix of “big-park” amenities into a neighborhood-sized green space on Whitefish Bay’s east side. Six resurfaced tennis courts, a regulation-size winter ice rink, multi-sport playing fields, reservable indoor space with restrooms, and an impending playground overhaul make this one of the most versatile family stops in Milwaukee’s North Shore.

The existing sandbox-anchored playground has long been a staple for younger kids, but the Village approved a full replacement in its 2024-28 Outdoor Recreation Plan. Construction began in early April, with a target completion in late spring/early summer; the winning Lee Recreation design will add modern structures, inclusive surfacing and better ADA access while preserving the beloved swings and sandbox.

Courts, Diamonds & Open Fields

  • Tennis & Pickleball — Six courts were resurfaced in 2021, extending their life 8-10 years.

  • Basketball, soccer, baseball & open turf ring the park, giving plenty of space for pickup games or organized league play.

The baseball diamond was rebuilt in 2013 alongside a storm-water project that doubled as flood control for the neighborhood and upgraded field drainage for players. There are also batting cages next to the field open to the public when games aren’t being played.

Warming House & Pavilion Rentals

Centrally located, the Warming House provides heated indoor seating, restrooms and a small fireplace—perfect for lacing skates in winter or hosting birthday parties year-round. The space (called the Cahill Pavilion when rented) costs $15/hour plus a refundable key deposit and is available daily from 8 am – 10 pm through the Recreation Department. Here’s how to reserve Cahill Pavilion.

On-site parking, additional street parking along Woodruff and Fairmount, and seasonal portable restrooms complement the Warming House facilities.

Whether you’re chasing a tennis volley under summer sun, completing laps on skates in January, or checking out the brand-new play structures later this year, Cahill Park offers a four-season playground for North Shore families just a few blocks off Lake Drive.

Potential Cahill Park Renovation on the horizon

The Whitefish Bay Village Board is reviewing a resident-driven concept that would renovate Cahill Square Park. The plan calls for replacing the small warming house with a 10,500-square-foot community building that pairs public meeting rooms and voting space with an 8,000-square-foot indoor turf hall for off-season practices and open play. Outside, the varsity baseball diamond would rotate 180 degrees and be resurfaced with synthetic turf, sending foul balls away from nearby houses and giving Little League teams a reliable, rain-resilient field. Six deteriorating tennis courts would be demolished and rebuilt as eight regulation north-south courts, with room left for either a full basketball court or flexible green space. Updated walkways, modern rest-rooms, a concessions window, a second-floor viewing deck, and a small sledding berm are also included.

While the big project is only at the concept stage, the playground replacement at Cahill is already underway and will be installed during summer 2025.
