Touch a Truck Events in the Milwaukee Area 2026
If your kids gasp every time a fire truck rolls past or beg to wave at the garbage truck driver on collection day, the Milwaukee metro has a season's worth of events tailor-made for them. Touch a Truck gatherings let children of all ages climb behind the wheel of dump trucks, snowplows, ambulances, police cruisers, ladder trucks, excavators, skid steers, school buses, and the occasional surprise rig you wouldn't normally get within twenty feet of.
Most are free, most happen outdoors at parks or shopping centers, and most are paired with food trucks, music, and the kind of community spirit that makes summer in Wisconsin feel like summer in Wisconsin. Here's a roundup of where to find the biggest and best Touch a Truck events across Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee, Washington, Racine, and Kenosha counties this year.

Entrance is from north of Maple Grove Lane only; turn left into the park and park as directed. Crossing guards help families safely cross Armory Road between the trucks. This one tends to draw a big crowd, so plan to arrive early.
Town of Brookfield's Town Truck Day at The Corners
The Corners of Brookfield has turned its outdoor Market Square into one of the most consistent family event hubs in the metro, and Town Truck Day is the marquee fall event. The Town of Brookfield moved the Town Truck Day event up to The Corners of Brookfield shopping center to utilize Market Square right by Von Maur, and it's been a big hit. Families and kids can enjoy a day filled with trucks, equipment and staff from Brookfield's fire and police departments, as well as construction and utility vehicles. The Town of Brookfield Fire Department, Police Department, construction vehicles and Corners utility vehicles are parked outside, around The Corners for kids to see and experience. Town Truck Day traditionally lands in September, when kids and kids at heart can climb aboard fire trucks, police cars, and construction vehicles during the ever-popular hands-on, interactive event that families love. Pair it with lunch at Bel Air Cantina, Cafe Hollander, or Goddess and the Baker, all steps from Market Square. Watch The Corners of Brookfield website and the Town of Brookfield events page for the 2026 date.

Mequon-Thiensville School District Touch a Truck at Oriole Lane Elementary
North Shore families with the youngest kids should keep an eye on the Mequon-Thiensville School District calendar. In conjunction with the Mequon-Thiensville School District's College and Career Week, the city of Mequon's Department of Public Works and the Southern Ozaukee Fire Department participate in Oriole Lane Elementary School's Touch a Truck event, where students observe and learn about the vehicles that help keep the community running. Vehicles include dump trucks, fire trucks and excavators, and students in 4K through third grade can explore one of the city's ambulances. This one is typically school-focused but worth tracking through the district communications.
Tips for Making the Most of Touch a Truck Season
A few things to know before you load the family in the minivan. Most of these events are at their peak crowd levels right when they open, so arriving in the first hour is a great strategy if your kids are small or sensitive to noise. Many events now offer a designated quiet hour or sensory-friendly window, usually at the start, when horns and sirens are silenced. Bring sun protection, water bottles, and a small towel or wipes—climbing in and out of equipment is messy work. Cash helps at the food trucks and treat stands. And take pictures from inside the cab; that's the shot you'll want on the fridge a year from now.
A Few More to Watch For
Smaller Touch a Truck events pop up across the metro every year through libraries, daycares, parks departments, churches, and homeowners' associations. The Milwaukee Public Library system, Boerner Botanical Gardens family programming, the Wisconsin State Fair, and local fire department open houses during Fire Prevention Week (typically the second week of October) all tend to include some version of climb-on-the-trucks fun. Visit Milwaukee, Lake Country Family Fun, MKE With Kids, and Milwaukee Family also keep good rolling lists, so it's worth a quick search closer to any given weekend to see what's been added to the calendar. If you know of a Touch a Truck event happening in your community that should be on this list, send it our way—we love sharing the love around the metro.
