Shorewood Could Add a StoryWalk at Hubbard Park

StoryWalk

Hubbard Park may already feel like it was designed for a storybook. There are winding paths, river views, giant trees, tucked-away corners and that wonderful “wait, are we still in the city?” feeling.

Now, there may be an actual story coming to the park.

As part of Shorewood’s proposed 2027 initiatives, the Shorewood Library has listed a StoryWalk® at Hubbard Park as one of its ideas for the year ahead.

If you’ve never done a StoryWalk before, it is exactly the kind of simple, charming adventure families love. Pages from a children’s book are placed along a walking route, allowing kids and caregivers to read the story one stop at a time while moving through a park or trail.

It turns a regular walk into a tiny adventure.

For families, this would be a perfect fit for Hubbard Park. You could start near the park entrance, follow the trail, stop for each page, look for birds along the river, and maybe finish with a snack or a little extra exploring. It is part reading activity, part nature walk, part excuse to get everyone outside.

The idea is still in the planning stage, so there are not yet details on timing, location within the park, book selections, or whether it will be permanent or rotating. But it is definitely one worth watching.

Hubbard Park is already one of Shorewood’s best family spots. A StoryWalk would make it even easier for parents to say yes to a quick outing: no big planning, no tickets, no long drive. Just a book, a walk, and one of the North Shore’s prettiest parks.

Families who already love Hubbard Park Lodge, Summer Sounds at Hubbard Park, and nearby Shorewood Library events would have another easy reason to make the park part of their regular routine.

Why families will love it:
It combines early literacy, outdoor time and low-key movement in a way that works for toddlers, preschoolers and elementary-age kids.

NSFA tip: Pair it with a visit to the Shorewood Public Library or a walk through nearby Hubbard Park Lodge grounds.
