Whitefish Bay Trick-or-Treating 2026: Dates and Hours
Halloween is shaping up a little differently in Whitefish Bay this year. For 2026, the Village's traditional residential trick-or-treat hours fall on Halloween itself — Saturday, October 31.
Families can also look forward to the return of downtown merchant trick-or-treating along Silver Spring Drive and four nights of glowing jack-o'-lanterns during the Great Pumpkin Festival.
Here’s what Whitefish Bay families need to know for Halloween 2026.
Whitefish Bay Residential Trick-or-Treat 2026
When: Saturday, October 31, 2026
Time: 1:00–4:00 p.m.
Where: Throughout Whitefish Bay neighborhoods
The Village of Whitefish Bay has scheduled its official trick-or-treat hours for 1 to 4 p.m. on Halloween Day.
That’s a change from recent years, when Whitefish Bay held trick-or-treating on the Sunday before Halloween. In 2025, for example, families headed out on Sunday, Oct. 26.
With Halloween falling on a Saturday in 2026, families get the best of both worlds: daytime trick-or-treating without having to rush home from school or work.
Tips for Residential Trick-or-Treating
Whitefish Bay's compact, walkable neighborhoods can get busy during trick-or-treat hours. A few simple precautions can make the afternoon easier:
Stay on sidewalks and cross at intersections whenever possible.
Watch carefully for cars when crossing neighborhood streets.
Younger children should trick-or-treat with an adult.
Look for homes with porch lights on as an indication that they're participating.
Consider adding reflective tape, glow sticks or lights to darker costumes.
Check candy and treats before younger children dig in.
If you're handing out candy, it doesn't hurt to stock up. Some Whitefish Bay neighborhoods attract a lot of trick-or-treaters during the three-hour window.
Downtown Merchant Trick-or-Treat
Date: To be announced
Time: 10 a.m.–noon
Where: Silver Spring Drive and participating Whitefish Bay businesses
The Merchants of Whitefish Bay are planning to bring back their popular merchant trick-or-treat event for 2026.
During the event, participating businesses along Silver Spring Drive hand out candy to children and families from 10 a.m. to noon.
As of August, the official 2026 date has not yet been announced. In 2025, the event took place on the Saturday before residential trick-or-treating. We'll update this guide when the Merchants of Whitefish Bay publishes the 2026 date.
The event makes for an easy Halloween outing with younger kids who may not be ready for a full afternoon of neighborhood trick-or-treating. It's also a good excuse to grab coffee, lunch or do a little shopping while you're downtown.
The Great Pumpkin Festival
Great Pumpkin Festival 2026
When: Wednesday, October 28–Saturday, October 31, 2026
Time: 6–9 p.m. nightly
Where: Old School House Park, Whitefish Bay
One of Whitefish Bay's favorite fall traditions returns for four nights in 2026.
The Whitefish Bay Civic Foundation has confirmed that the Great Pumpkin Festival will run October 28–31 at Old School House Park.
That means Halloween Saturday could be an especially fun one in Whitefish Bay: families can trick-or-treat from 1–4 p.m., head home for dinner and then return to the park after dark for the final night of the Great Pumpkin Festival.

How the Great Pumpkin Festival Works
Families carve pumpkins at home and bring their finished jack-o'-lanterns to the park, where they're added to the enormous community display.
Once darkness falls, hundreds of carved pumpkins illuminate Old School House Park and create one of the most recognizable Halloween scenes on Milwaukee's North Shore.
The Civic Foundation says the festival will feature music, food and a beer tent each night from 6–9 p.m.
It's free to walk through the display, making it an easy addition to your family's Halloween plans.
Make a Full Halloween Day of It
With Halloween falling on Saturday this year, October 31 could be one of the biggest Halloween days Whitefish Bay has had in years.
Start the afternoon with residential trick-or-treating from 1–4 p.m. After everyone has had a chance to warm up, eat dinner and inspect the candy haul, head over to Old School House Park for the final night of the Great Pumpkin Festival from 6–9 p.m.
