Brown Deer Launches Public Art Plan: Your Chance for Input
Brown Deer is taking a big step toward brightening public spaces and fostering creativity through a brand-new Public Art Plan. The initiative promises to bring colorful murals, striking sculptures, interactive displays, and even art festivals to local streets and parks, enhancing the community experience for families across the North Shore and beyond.
What’s Happening?
Brown Deer is calling on artists—and families who love art—to help shape their visual landscape. The newly announced Public Art Plan aims to commission a wide range of public artworks, from landscape designs to memorable events, with the first installations expected in the coming months.
But before launching these projects, they're reaching out for input from the community, especially artists who want to see their designs come to life close to home.
Key Elements of the Plan:
Vision and Goals: Focus on accessibility for all, celebrating diversity, and ensuring the art resonates with the community.
Artist Selection Process: A transparent approach to choosing and commissioning artworks.
Sustainable Funding: Backed by both village resources and the Brown Deer Community Foundation.
Long-Term Care: Plans for ongoing maintenance so art can be enjoyed for years.
Community Engagement: Opportunities for everyone, from budding young artists to seasoned professionals, to participate or simply enjoy the displays.
The village will host a virtual presentation on Tuesday, November 11 at 4 pm, with Village Manager Tyler Burkart sharing the plan to artists. Those interested in attending should contact tburkart@browndeerwi.gov to receive more information including the call-in information.
Support and Funding
Projects will be funded through donations to the Brown Deer Community Foundation, with public art now a key pillar of their mission alongside health, sustainability, and education. As the foundation’s president puts it, these initiatives are set to "energize and feed the soul for everyone who comes to Brown Deer to live, work and play, and serve as a growth catalyst for our entire region."
