Traveling Beer Garden Season Kicks Off 2026 at Wilson Park

Beer garden

Milwaukee’s favorite sign of summer is rolling back into the parks.

The 2026 Traveling Beer Garden season opens Wednesday, May 13, at Wilson Park, bringing Milwaukee County Parks’ restored fire truck beer garden back for another season of outdoor drinks, food, music and casual community fun. The first stop runs May 13 through May 25, with the beer garden located at picnic area #1 near 13th Street and Howard Avenue.

To celebrate opening night, the Traveling Beer Garden will offer free beer and root beer for the first 20 minutes beginning at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13. It is a fun little Milwaukee tradition: adults can toast the start of the season, kids can get in on the celebration with root beer, and everyone gets a reason to spend a spring evening outside.

The Traveling Beer Garden is exactly what it sounds like: a mobile beer garden that turns Milwaukee County parks into temporary gathering spots for about two weeks at a time. Restored fire trucks have been converted into mobile beer trucks, serving craft beer and more from May through September.

More than beer

While the name may say beer garden, this is also an easy family outing. The open-air park setting makes it simple to meet friends, let kids enjoy the space, bring a picnic blanket or camp chairs, and enjoy a low-key evening without needing a formal dinner reservation.

This year’s Traveling Beer Garden lineup includes activities such as Alt Dog Run Lure Days, Art and Hops Night Market, Betos Potatoes Food Truck, live music and other seasonal pop-ups. In other words, it is not just a place to grab a pint. It is a rotating summer hangout with a little something different depending on when you visit.

Why families should put it on the calendar

The Traveling Beer Garden is one of those Milwaukee traditions that works because it is simple: good weather, a local park, a drink in hand, food nearby and neighbors gathering outside again after a long winter. For families, the root beer option makes opening night feel festive for kids too, and the casual park atmosphere keeps it flexible.

You can stop by for 30 minutes after work or make an evening of it. Bring snacks, check for food truck dates, pack water bottles, and plan for spring weather. Since the beer garden is outdoors, layers are always a good idea in May.

The Wilson Park stop is the first of several Traveling Beer Garden visits planned across Milwaukee County this season, with the tour continuing through September.

So consider this your official cue: beer garden season is back. Grab the family, text a few friends, and kick off summer early at Wilson Park.
