Play It Again Sports Plans New Fox Point Location at RiverPoint
A familiar sporting goods name could soon be coming to Fox Point.
Play It Again Sports, the national retailer known for buying and selling new and gently used sporting goods, has proposed a new location at 8643B N. Port Washington Road in Fox Point’s RiverPoint Shopping Center.
The store would occupy the former Kerns Carpet space, according to documents submitted to the Village of Fox Point. Owners Ron and Marie Yoder are seeking a conditional use permit to operate the retail and consignment sporting goods store.

A nearly 3,900-square-foot store
The proposed Play It Again Sports would occupy approximately 3,886 square feet.
Application materials show about 2,800 square feet devoted to retail displays, along with a customer service and trade-in area, storage and processing space and employee facilities.
The company anticipates approximately 10 employees, including two full-time managers and eight part-time sales associates and service technicians.
Plans call primarily for interior improvements rather than major changes to the shopping center. The application estimates approximately $100,000 to $150,000 in renovations, including new retail fixtures, paint and branding, flooring, lighting, electrical work and plumbing adjustments.
The floor plan submitted to Fox Point also shows the sales floor wrapping around an adjacent tenant space, with merchandise displays, a service area, office and break room planned inside the new store.
Proposed hours
If approved, the Fox Point Play It Again Sports plans to operate:
Monday-Friday: 10 a.m.-8 p.m.
Saturday: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Sunday: Noon-5 p.m.
Fox Point staff determined that RiverPoint has sufficient parking for employees and customers.
Could it open this fall?
The application lists a target occupancy date of Oct. 1, 2026, followed by a target grand opening of Nov. 1, 2026.
Those should still be viewed as proposed dates rather than a confirmed opening schedule because the location remains subject to the village approval and permitting process.
Play It Again Sports specializes in a mix of new and used sporting goods, apparel and fitness equipment, with customers also able to bring equipment into the store to sell or trade.
According to the Fox Point application, the proposed location would carry gear for sports including hockey, golf, baseball and softball, lacrosse, soccer and winter sports, along with home fitness equipment.
The shop would also offer services such as:
• Skate sharpening
• Hockey equipment fitting
• Golf club regripping
• Minor sporting equipment adjustments and repairs
That resale model could make the store particularly useful for families whose kids seem to outgrow skates, bats, gloves and other sports equipment almost as quickly as they buy it.

Sporting goods return to RiverPoint
The proposed location also has an interesting connection to RiverPoint's retail history.
The shopping center previously housed Burghardt Sporting Goods, making Play It Again Sports another sporting-goods retailer to call the center home, although with a different business model centered heavily on resale and trade-ins.
For North Shore families, a local option for buying and trading kids' sports equipment could be especially handy with hockey, baseball, soccer and other youth sports creating a seemingly endless cycle of changing sizes and new gear.
