Bike Spur Proposed Between Interurban Trail and Rotary Park

A safer, smoother ride could soon be on the way for Mequon-area families who bike. The City of Mequon is seeking public input on final plans for the proposed Highland Road Bike Spur, a multi-use 10-foot asphalt path that would connect the Ozaukee Interurban Trail with Rotary Park.

The 1.4-mile connector would stretch along the north side of Highland Road from Cedarburg Road (WIS 57) to Green Bay Road, creating a continuous path for cyclists, runners, and walkers between two of Mequon’s most popular outdoor spaces.

According to the project overview, the bike spur would feature:

  • A 10-foot-wide paved trail separated from the road

  • Crushed limestone shoulders for added stability

  • Enhanced drainage and curb ramps for safety and accessibility

  • Improvements to driveways and intersections along the route

Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2026, following contractor selection later this summer.

Families, trail users, and neighbors are encouraged to submit feedback by July 25, which will be shared with the MT Trails Foundation’s design team.
