Mequon’s Chef Jason Morimoto Wins Morimoto’s Sushi Master
Jason Morimoto, executive chef at Screaming Tuna Sushi in Mequon, is officially a sushi master.
Jason can finally reveal that he competed on Morimoto’s Sushi Master. Not only that — SPOILER ALERT — he won the entire competition!
Here’s how you and your family can celebrate this hometown triumph—and maybe even pick up a few sushi‑making tips along the way.
Meet the Chef—and the Show
Jason Morimoto shares more than a surname with “Iron Chef” Masaharu Morimoto—he shared the kitchen. On Morimoto’s Sushi Master, Chef Morimoto and seven other sushi chefs faced six intense challenges judged by Iron Chef Morimoto himself. From crafting perfect nigiri to executing a flawless tamagoyaki, each round tested their skill, creativity, and nerves. In the end, Mequon’s own Jason out‑rolled, out‑sliced and out‑cooked the competition to claim the $25,000 prize and the title of sushi master.
Stream It for Free
Starting April 25, the full six‑episode season is available at no cost on the Roku Channel. Gather the family, make some popcorn (or pick up to‑go rolls from Screaming Tuna), and tune in to cheer on our local hero as he brings heart, soul—and a sharp knife—to every challenge.
Sunday Night Watch Parties
If you’d rather watch with fellow sushi enthusiasts, Screaming Tuna Mequon is hosting weekly watch parties through May. Each Sunday evening features one episode, an open bar and a buffet spread showcasing the restaurant’s best sushi and small plates. Tickets are $50 per person and include all‑you‑can‑eat bites; space is limited, so be sure to reserve your spot at the Mequon Public Market (6300 W. Mequon Rd.).
Omakase Dinner Series in June
For a truly immersive experience, Jason will launch a special Omakase Dinner Series in June—available Fridays and Saturdays by reservation only. Limited to two seatings of 12 guests per night, these multi‑course tasting menus highlight seasonal ingredients and the chef’s signature techniques. The restaurant will transform its dining room into a more intimate setting, giving you a front‑row seat to watch each piece prepared by the sushi master himself.
Ready to cheer on Chef Morimoto? Stream the season, gather at Screaming Tuna on Sunday evenings, or book an Omakase seat in June—and help us celebrate a North Shore chef who’s made his mark on the sushi world.
A tradition in the Mequon-Thiensville area, Family Fun Before the Fourth is scheduled for Saturday, June 28, 2025. This day-long celebration offers activities and entertainment for all ages.
