The New Whitefish Bay Sendik’s Is Open: What’s Inside and What’s Coming Up
Whitefish Bay’s new two-story Sendik’s Food Market opened at 500 E. Silver Spring Drive on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. The ribbon cutting and opening-week music have wrapped up, but there is still plenty for neighbors to explore—and more activity ahead on Silver Spring Drive.
The new market sits beside the longtime neighborhood store it replaced. For shoppers who remember its narrow aisles and crowded checkout area, the difference is immediate: the first floor alone covers approximately 36,000 square feet, with a larger produce department and more room for groceries, prepared foods and home goods.
What Can You Find in the New Store?
Grocery shopping takes place on the first floor. Along with the expanded selection, shoppers will find a coffee bar, a home and gift area, and a range of ready-to-eat options. Those include sushi, burritos, sandwiches, salads and other prepared foods. A mezzanine offers a place to sit with a coffee or a bite to eat while looking out over the market.
The grand opening was also a milestone for the Balistreri family, which is marking 100 years in the grocery business in 2026. Sendik’s celebrated the Whitefish Bay opening with a ribbon cutting and live music, including saxophonist Tobias Cainion on opening day and performances during the first weekend.
What’s Happening Upstairs?
The planned second-floor restaurant is called Tudi’s, a nod to a family nickname. It is expected to serve casual lunch and dinner dishes, including pizza, pasta and sandwiches.
Tudi’s was still under construction when the grocery store opened on September 23. Sendik’s said at the time that the restaurant was expected to open in the following weeks, but an exact opening date has not been announced. The mezzanine seating is already part of the new market experience; check with Sendik’s before making a trip specifically for restaurant service.
The store also plans to use its gathering space for more community activities, with children’s face painting among the possibilities mentioned by a Sendik’s spokesperson. Dates for those activities have not yet been published.
Upcoming Music and Events Near Sendik’s
The opening-week performances are over, but the entertainment organizer has described live music at the new Sendik’s as an ongoing weekend offering. A complete schedule for the next several weekends has not been posted. One later performance is currently listed:
Sunday, October 25, at 11 a.m.: Singer-songwriter Catelyn Huckstep is listed to perform at Sendik’s. Check the listing before heading out, as event plans can change.
There are also two reasons to make a broader Silver Spring Drive outing this fall:
Saturday, October 3: The Whitefish Bay Farmers Market lists its final regular Saturday market of the season at 325 E. Silver Spring Drive. Its early farmers market runs from 8 to 9 a.m., followed by the full market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Saturday, October 24, from 10 a.m. to noon: The Merchants of Whitefish Bay plan their downtown trick-or-treat event, with participating businesses handing out candy along Silver Spring Drive. Their event page also suggests visiting the Great Pumpkin display at School House Park.

What About the Construction Outside?
The store is open, while some public improvements around it are still being finished. Silver Spring Drive is back to two-way traffic, though brief lane closures or delays remain possible. Sidewalks have been installed, but some intersection corners still need brick pavers and are not yet safe to cross. Parking restrictions are being lifted in some locations; drivers should continue to follow posted signs and bagged meters.
