Volunteers work in the Whitefish Bay Community Garden

Community Garden's Opening Day is set for April 1, 2025

The Whitefish Bay Community Garden stands as a beacon of collaboration and growth. Established by a group of dedicated high school students and now nurtured by the Whitefish Bay Recreation and Community Education Department, this garden is much more than a place to grow fresh produce.

What began as a passion project by enthusiastic young minds has evolved into a lasting tradition of organic gardening. The garden not only supplies locally grown fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers, but it also cultivates a strong sense of community among its volunteers.

Currently, the garden is set into motion with over 150 community volunteers who help prep and maintain the space to grow healthy food and educational opportunities for Whitefish Bay and neighboring communities. On April 1, the WFB Community Garden Coordinator and volunteers officially began planning and prepping the garden for the summer of 2025.

For those looking to visit or get involved, the garden is easily accessible. The garden is located at 1200 E. Fairmount Ave, on the Whitefish Bay High School lot along Marlborough Avenue between the Field House and Memorial Gym. For administrative questions or further information, please visit the Whitefish Bay Recreation Department's main office at 5205 N. Lydell Ave.

Children and staff working on the Whitefish Bay Gardens

The success of the Whitefish Bay Community Garden relies on the generous support of sponsors and volunteers. Whether you’re contributing time, energy, money, or materials, every effort plays a key role in our community’s shared success. Volunteers help maintain the garden, harvest the produce, and assist with seasonal clean-ups, while local businesses provide sponsorships that support the cost of plants, tools, and maintenance.

We welcome Volunteers, Donors, and Business Sponsors to help get this growing season off and sprouting. Garden needs are fully supported by business sponsorships and community donations, both monetary and in-kind. If you’re inspired to join this forward-thinking initiative, click the buttons below to learn more about how to get involved or reach out to us directly.

Looking to the Future

The Whitefish Bay Community Garden is a forward-thinking initiative that exemplifies community resilience and sustainability. As we prepare for the upcoming season, every volunteer hour, every donation, and every shared success story contributes to a future where community spirit grows as abundantly as our organic harvest.

If you’re ready to be part of something special, please fill out the brochure provided by the Whitefish Bay Recreation Department or contact Miriam Gerrietts, the Community Garden Coordinator, at miriam.gerrietts@wfbschools.com.
