Why This Is Being Considered
Pickleball has rapidly expanded in Whitefish Bay, with frequent play at Klode Park and Cahill Square Park. However, residents have raised noise concerns, pointing to the distinctive sound of pickleball compared to tennis, along with high participation on the smaller courts. Reports of play in the early morning and late evening have added to the complaints.
The Village has already tried to address the issue by:
Installing signs with rules and etiquette reminders
Adding sound barriers and shrubbery at Klode Park
Setting play hours from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Klode Park
Despite these steps, noise concerns continue to be raised.
What the Proposed Ordinance Would Do
If approved, the ordinance would:
Restrict pickleball play at Klode Park to 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Prohibit pickleball entirely at Cahill Square Park
The ordinance changes would not take effect until October 1, 2025.
Next Steps: The Village Board will decide whether to approve the amendments to Municipal Code §§ 8-67 and 8-69. Until a vote is taken, the proposed restrictions remain under consideration.
