Wisconsin Fourth of July 2026: A Statewide Guide to Parades, Fireworks & Family Festivals
Note: Event details are subject to change. Always verify times, locations, and cancellations with official event websites or local news sources before heading out.
July 4, 2026 falls on a Saturday, which means almost every Wisconsin community is running its full traditional parade-and-fireworks combo on the holiday itself, with Door County, La Crosse, Stevens Point, and Lake Geneva stretching celebrations across a four- to five-day weekend tied to America's 250th birthday.
The best "destination" 4th of July trips in Wisconsin are Door County (six communities, six staggered fireworks shows over the water, July 2–11), Bayfield/Madeline Island (twin fireworks over Lake Superior), La Crosse Riverfest (July 1–4 on the Mississippi), Cedarburg (southeast Wisconsin's largest hometown parade), and Lake Geneva (drone show July 4 plus the Grand Geneva resort fireworks).
If you just want fireworks near home, Festival Foods is sponsoring 32 free shows statewide on July 3, 4, or 5 (per festfoods.com/fireworks) — including Appleton (July 3, 9:45 p.m.), Wausau (July 4, 9:15 p.m.), Fond du Lac, Green Bay, Manitowoc, Oshkosh, Sheboygan, Racine, Kenosha, Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, Baraboo, Hartford, and Stevens Point (July 5).

Madison Metro / South Central Wisconsin
Madison's July 4th fireworks story remains one of transition heading into 2026. The city lacks a centralized standalone show — Rhythm and Booms ran for 21 years before being cancelled, Shake the Lake replaced it until 2020, and the most recent attempt, "Bucky-n-Booms," had its fireworks pulled just days before the holiday and was quietly renamed "Stars, Stripes & Shorelines." Fortunately, the surrounding communities more than fill the gap:

One of the largest and longest-running July 4 celebrations in southern Wisconsin: Wisconsin Wife Carry Championship, Taste of the Festival, $5,000 Hole-in-One Contest, family-friendly carnival, magician, kids show, Art Fair in the Park, Fireman's Children's Parade. Sauk Prairie’s Fire on the River runs Friday–Saturday, July 3–4, 2026, along the Wisconsin River in downtown Sauk City. One important update: the fireworks are Friday night, July 3, not July 4. The official schedule lists fireworks at approximately 9:45 p.m. on the Riverway, with the FAQ noting an approximate 9:30 p.m. start.
Friday includes live music from Forgotten Highway before and after the fireworks. Saturday brings the Eagle Chase races, the Thunder Car Show, music from Foo Foo Dolls and Super Tuesday, food, drinks and riverfront festival fun. See the official Fire on the River schedule for the latest details.
Viroqua Fourth of July — Saturday, July 4, 2026
Viroqua’s Fourth of July lineup includes several easy family stops throughout the day. The Viroqua Farmers Market runs 8 a.m.–12:30 p.m. at Western Technical College, followed by the Freedom Fun Run / Walk / Ruck, the Bethel Home & Services 4th of July Car Show from 1–4 p.m. at the Vernon County Fairgrounds, and the Strawberry Shortcake Social from 1–5 p.m. at the Sherry-Butt House, 795 N. Main St.
Fireworks are scheduled for dusk at the Vernon County Fairgrounds, produced by the volunteer Viroqua Skylighters. Check the Viroqua Chamber calendar for updates.
Westby Fourth of July — Saturday, July 4, 2026
Westby’s fireworks are scheduled for dusk Saturday, July 4, in the Westby Business Park along Highway 27, north of the fire station. Local Fourth of July festivities often include fire department and community activities earlier in the day, but the fireworks location and timing are the key details to confirm before you go.
Spring Green / River Valley Area
Spring Green itself is better treated as a River Valley home base than the primary fireworks site for July 4. Nearby options include Sauk Prairie’s Fire on the River fireworks on Friday, July 3, and Lone Rock’s Fourth of July Celebration at Fireman’s Park on July 3–4, with marketplace activities, a run/walk, parade, food and fireworks at dusk on July 4.
Arena also hosts the Mary Jones & Yolanda Peterson Memorial Fireworks weekend after the Fourth, with parade activities, ball games, music and food. Check the Spring Green area events calendar and the Lone Rock Fourth of July Celebration for current details.
Prairie du Chien / Crawford County
Prairie du Chien’s St. Feriole Island has traditionally been associated with Chamber fireworks in July, but a specific 2026 Chamber fireworks date was not clearly posted on the current Chamber calendar at the time of this update. If you’re planning around Prairie du Chien specifically, confirm with the Prairie du Chien Area Chamber events calendar before making it your main fireworks stop.
Nearby confirmed Crawford County options include the Gays Mills Fourth of July Celebration and the Eastman Fourth of July Celebration, both with fireworks at dusk on July 4.
Platteville Fourth of July Celebration — Saturday, July 4, 2026
Platteville’s community-funded Fourth of July Celebration is scheduled for Saturday, July 4. The day begins with a Veterans Honor Roll patriotic program at City Park, then shifts to Legion Park and Legion Field for family activities, food, beer, live music and fireworks at dusk from Legion Field.
This is a strong southwest Wisconsin option if you’re looking for a traditional all-day celebration with a community feel. Check the Platteville Fourth of July Celebration page for updates.
More Driftless-area Fourth of July options
Other western Wisconsin celebrations to check before you finalize plans include Lancaster Jaycees fireworks, Cassville’s Fourth of July activities, Boscobel’s Fireman’s Festival, Muscoda’s Wisconsin River Canoe & Kayak Race, Gays Mills’ Stump Dodger Bash, and Eastman’s Fourth of July Celebration.

Note: Lake Geneva's signature lighted-boat parade and lakefront fireworks (the 64th Annual Venetian Festival) are August 19–23, 2026, not July 4 — worth knowing if planning a summer trip.
Recommendations
If you're staying close to home in southeast Wisconsin: Choose Cedarburg if you want classic Americana with Division-1 drum & bugle corps and an estimated 10,000-person crowd, or pick your neighborhood Milwaukee County park if you want a relaxed morning parade plus 9:15 p.m. fireworks within walking distance. For lakefront fireworks: Racine North Beach (9 p.m., self-billed "Midwest's Largest" parade), Kenosha lakefront (9:30 p.m.), Sheboygan Lakefront (9:30 p.m.).
If you can travel for one trip, make it Door County (July 2–11) — book a 3-night minimum in Sturgeon Bay or Egg Harbor now if you haven't already. Recommended itinerary for a Milwaukee family: drive up Thursday July 2, catch Fish Creek fireworks Thursday and Egg Harbor's award-winning show Friday July 3, do the Baileys Harbor pancake breakfast and 10 a.m. parade Saturday July 4 followed by Sturgeon Bay fireworks at 9:15 p.m., reserve Sunday for Peninsula State Park and Wilson's ice cream.
If you want the most patriotic single-day road trip, drive to Bayfield/Madeline Island (Lake Superior, twin fireworks displays viewable from one spot — the Madeline Island Chamber claims a "Top 10" small-town ranking) or La Crosse for Riverfest's four-day Mississippi River festival (Mitchell Tenpenny headlines, Chad Erickson Memorial Fireworks Extravaganza closes the night).
If you want a destination resort experience,Lake Geneva (Grand Geneva and Liberty on the Lake drone show) is the obvious choice for southeast Wisconsin families; Wisconsin Dells (Wilderness, Kalahari KABOOM!, Mt. Olympus, plus the downtown 1,300-shell Fireworks Extravaganza) is ideal for families with younger kids who want waterpark + fireworks.
For Madison-area families: The Madison Fireworks Organization community show on Thursday July 2 is your primary downtown option (Rhythm & Booms and Elver Park are gone). Build the weekend around Monona Community Festival July 3–4 for a true big-festival feel with the famously generous fireworks display over Lake Monona, plus the WaunaBoom and Verona Festival Foods shows as alternatives.
Benchmarks that should change your plans:
If the National Weather Service issues a Red Flag warning or severe thunderstorm watch the week of July 4, check the event Facebook page that afternoon — Northwoods and central-WI shows are routinely shifted to July 5 or 6 in fire-risk or storm conditions.
If lodging is sold out in Door County or Bayfield by mid-June, pivot to Manitowoc (Fourth on the Shore), Sturgeon Bay's lower-priced inns, or Sister Bay's Freedom Fest weekend (July 11) — same peninsula, no peak-weekend rates.
Book Festival Foods Fireworks parking shuttles in advance (Kimberly, Wausau) — lots fill 2+ hours before fireworks.
Caveats
2026 is the United States Semiquincentennial (America 250), so some events have larger budgets, drone shows, flyovers, and expanded music lineups. This usually means bigger crowds — arrive 60–90 minutes earlier than you would in a normal year.
Local-vs-Festival Foods date discrepancies: Stevens Point's Festival Foods Fireworks are explicitly Sunday, July 5, 2026 (not July 3 or 4), per both the City of Stevens Point and Riverfront Rendezvous 2026 schedule. Always cross-check festfoods.com with the host city's own page.
Drone shows ≠ fireworks. Lake Geneva's Liberty on the Lake (July 4) and Wauwatosa's Hart Park (July 2) have moved to drones; if your family is coming specifically for traditional pyrotechnics, confirm the format. Stevens Point in 2026 will run both a drone show and an enhanced fireworks display.
Madeline Island ferry timing: Last regularly scheduled return to Bayfield is 10:30 p.m. — no late boats added on July 4. Plan your departure if you're not staying overnight on the island.
Door County lodging routinely sells out 9–12 months ahead with 2- or 3-night minimums over July 4. Peninsula State Park's 468 campsites release exactly 11 months ahead and can sell out within minutes.
Drone use is prohibited within 500 feet of public events during scheduled event times in many Wisconsin cities (e.g., Fond du Lac per Wis. Stat. 175.55 / city ord. 27.304(10)).
Fireworks are illegal in the City of Milwaukee for personal use — the 2026 Fourth of July Commission's official theme reminds residents to celebrate safely.
Specific 2026 headliner/band lineups have not been published for some events (notably Fire Over the Fox in Green Bay) at the time of writing; multi-stage live music with regional bands is the standard format.
Prairie du Chien fireworks 2026 date had not been posted on official Chamber/city sites at time of research. Historically held in early July on St. Feriole Island/Lawler Park; verify directly with the Prairie du Chien Chamber (608-326-8555).
