The Highlanders claimed the North Shore Conference title while running 7-0 in conference play en route to the playoffs.
Here’s their results so far and a look ahead.

Level 2: #1 Homestead defeated #4 Elkhorn 36-0
Level 3: #1 Homestead vs. No. 2 Monona Grove
Postseason rounds in this bracket are scheduled for Fridays at 7:00 p.m.: Oct. 24 (Level 1), Oct. 31 (Level 2), Nov. 7 (Level 3), and Nov. 14 (state semifinals). The Division 2 championship is Friday, Nov. 21 at 1:00 p.m. at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.
Coaching
Drake Zortman leads Homestead with championship pedigree and institutional knowledge. He previously served as co-head coach with Matt Wolf (now defensive coordinator) before assuming sole leadership. Under Zortman, Homestead reached the 2021 Division 2 state championship game (losing to Waunakee 33-21) and has won two North Shore Conference titles (2022, 2024). His staff includes Dan Juedes, a member of both the Wisconsin Football Coaches Hall of Fame and National Football Coaches Hall of Fame who still coaches at camps nationwide.
Homestead has won six WIAA state championships (1999, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2015, 2018) and appeared in eight state championship games. The program knows how to win in November. Zortman also coaches his son, Lee, creating unique family dynamics that clearly work—the junior quarterback scored the conference championship-clinching touchdown.
The Road Ahead: A Level 3 showdown could feature Germantown or Monona Grove—both programs with postseason pedigree and enough defense to turn it into a field-position chess match.
Homestead's path to perfection included statement victories that validated their championship credentials. The 28-14 revenge win over defending state champion Slinger stands as the signature achievement. If Homestead holds serve at home through its quadrant, a state semifinal on Nov. 14 awaits before the title game on Nov. 21 at Camp Randall. Survive four Fridays of playoff football, and the Highlanders are playing for gold.
