Free Kids Concert: Wicked Inspires Music for Munchkins
Looking for a fun, free, and educational outing for your little ones this winter? The Whitefish Bay High School Orchestras are bringing back their beloved Music for Munchkins concert for the 33rd year, and this year's theme is sure to delight fans of a certain magical musical.
Wicked Music in Munchkinland takes loose inspiration from the hit movie Wicked, transporting young audience members to a whimsical world of music and wonder. The concert takes place on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the Whitefish Bay High School Auditorium.
What to Expect
The afternoon kicks off at 12:30 pm with hands-on activities designed especially for curious young minds. Kids can get creative at the craft stations and explore a string instrument "petting zoo" where children of all ages can touch, hold, and even try playing violins, violas, cellos, and basses. The instruments are generously provided by Brass Bell Music Store, giving little ones a rare opportunity to experience these beautiful instruments up close.
At 1:30 pm, the concert begins. The Whitefish Bay High School Orchestra students will perform a family-friendly program, with a special guest appearance by fifth grade orchestra students from Richards and Cumberland elementary schools. It's a wonderful chance for young musicians to see students just a few years ahead of them performing on stage.

Music for Munchkins has been a North Shore tradition for over three decades, and there's a reason it keeps coming back. The concert is specifically designed with young children in mind, featuring an approachable length, engaging themes, and interactive elements that keep little ones entertained. The instrument petting zoo is particularly special—it's not often kids get permission to actually touch and experiment with orchestral instruments in a welcoming, no-pressure environment.
Whether your child is already taking music lessons, thinking about starting an instrument, or simply loves a good performance, this free community event is a wonderful way to spend a winter Sunday afternoon.
