Fox Point Ice Rink Set to Open

Ice rink

Winter is warming up in Fox Point — the Village ice rink (Ice 46) is on track to open Wednesday, December 17, 2025, weather permitting, along with the warming house for the start of regularly scheduled hours.

How the ice is being made (and why it takes time)

DPW crews have begun flooding the rink basin to build the ice surface for the season. The process isn’t instant: the basin (about 700,000 gallons) can take up to 24 hours to fill, then another 48+ hours for the surface water temperature to drop enough to start freezing, and another 48–72 hours to fully freeze into a solid sheet.

Important: Please stay off the ice as it forms

Even if it looks skateable, early skating can damage the surface and create unsafe conditions before the full sheet is formed. Giving it time now helps everyone get a smoother, safer rink once it’s open.

Regular hours of operation

Monday–Friday: 3:30–9:00 PM
Saturday: 10:00 AM–9:00 PM
Sunday: 12:00–9:00 PM

For the latest conditions and any weather-related changes, check the Village Ice Rink page and sign up for updates so you don’t miss opening-day announcements or closures.
