Party for the Playground Brings Fun to Mequon Rotary Park

Party for the playground

Mequon Rotary Park is getting ready for a big community celebration with a purpose.

The Rotary Clubs of Thiensville and Mequon are hosting Party for the Playground on Saturday, August 15, 2026, from noon to 5 p.m. at Mequon Rotary Park’s South Playground, 4100 Highland Road. The free, family-friendly event is designed to build excitement and awareness for the future Rotary All-User Playground, an inclusive playground planned for one of the North Shore’s most popular community parks.

Families can expect an afternoon packed with live music, carnival games, inflatables, food trucks and interactive experiences — plus a first look at the plans for the future playground.

Best of all, admission is completely free.

Kid Boogie Down Kicks Off the Party

The fun starts at noon with Kid Boogie Down, Milwaukee’s high-energy family dance party led by DJ lukewarm.

This is not your average kids’ music hour. Kid Boogie Down brings music videos, lights, bubbles, lasers and a full dance-party atmosphere designed for kids and grownups to enjoy together. For Party for the Playground, families can expect a K-pop/Demon Hunter-inspired DJ dance party filled with family-friendly favorites and current hits.

It is the kind of event where kids can run, dance, sing and get their wiggles out while parents get to enjoy a little music they actually recognize.

The BriTins Bring Beatles Classics to the Park

From 2:30–5 p.m., The BriTins take the stage with a live Beatles tribute show.

The Milwaukee-area group recreates the sound and spirit of the Fab Four with vintage-style instruments, costumes and classics from the Beatles’ early years through their legendary later recordings. It is a fun choice for a multi-generational event: grandparents, parents and kids can all find something familiar in the music.

Bring a blanket or lawn chairs and make an afternoon of it.

What Is the Rotary All-User Playground?

The future Rotary All-User Playground is planned for Mequon Rotary Park, near the south pavilion area. The goal is to create a more inclusive play space where children of all abilities can play, explore and connect.

That matters because great playgrounds are not just about slides and swings. They are community gathering spaces. They are where toddlers practice climbing, older kids make new friends, parents meet neighbors and families build routines around simple, outdoor fun.

An all-user playground would make Rotary Park even more welcoming for families across Mequon, Thiensville and the wider North Shore.

Why Families Should Go

Party for the Playground has all the ingredients for an easy August family outing:

  • Free admission

  • Live music

  • Kid-friendly dancing

  • Carnival games

  • Inflatables

  • Food trucks

  • A chance to learn about a future inclusive playground

  • Plenty of space to spread out at Rotary Park

It is also a great excuse to revisit one of Mequon’s best family parks. Rotary Park already includes playgrounds, ball fields, soccer fields, a pond, trails and picnic areas, making it a natural place for a community celebration.

Make It a Full Mequon Family Day

If you are coming from Shorewood, Whitefish Bay, Glendale, Fox Point, Bayside or Milwaukee, Mequon Rotary Park makes for an easy North Shore outing.

Before or after the event, families could add a walk, bike ride or dinner stop nearby. Rotary Park is also part of a growing conversation around family-friendly outdoor connections in Mequon, including the proposed Highland Road bike spur connecting the Ozaukee Interurban Trail to Rotary Park. Read more in our guide to the proposed bike spur between the Interurban Trail and Rotary Park.

Quick Tips for Families

Arrive early for Kid Boogie Down. If your kids love dancing, bubbles and lights, the noon kickoff is the part you will not want to miss.

Bring chairs or a blanket. The BriTins perform from 2:30–5 p.m., so plan for some relaxed park time in the afternoon.

Pack sunscreen and water. Mid-August afternoons can be hot, and Rotary Park has plenty of open space.

Bring a few dollars for food trucks. Admission is free, but you will likely want snacks, lunch or an early dinner from the food vendors.

Use the event as a teachable moment. This is a great chance to talk with kids about inclusive play and why playgrounds should work for as many families as possible.
