Whitefish Bay considers changes to pickleball hours

Pickleball paddle

At the September 15 meeting, the Whitefish Bay Village Board discussed an ordinance to amend municipal codes related to park usage for pickleball.

The agenda item focused on Klode Park courts, current play hours, nearby homes, and ongoing sound-mitigation steps. Assistant Village Manager Anna Christopherson presented background and outlined proposed changes, noting that a narrower daily window (e.g., 10 a.m.–2 p.m.) could significantly limit access and should be balanced with neighbor concerns.

Action taken:
After discussion, the Board voted 4–3 to table the ordinance changes and asked staff to return with additional options at a future meeting (motion by Trustee Dettmann, second by Trustee Kasper; Trustees Haller, Saunders, and Serebin dissenting).

Additional context from the discussion:
Trustee Serebin suggested continuing the conversation that evening, pointing out that some issues only surfaced after earlier approvals. It was also noted that, from a scheduling standpoint, the item may not return to the Board until spring.

Related capital project:
In a separate vote on the 2026–2031 Capital Improvement Plan, the Board directed staff to include $40,000 in 2026 for resurfacing the tennis/pickleball courts at Klode Park.

What this means for now:

  • No changes to pickleball hours or rules were adopted at this meeting. The ordinance amendment was tabled pending further staff work and options.

  • A court resurfacing project at Klode Park is planned for 2026 under the updated capital plan.
