Whitefish Bay U12 Little League: Schedule, Scores, Results

Whitefish Bay little league

The Whitefish Bay U12 baseball team has etched their names in local sports history, capturing its state championship and earning the right to represent Wisconsin at the regional level for the first time ever.

This is the first team from Whitefish Bay to win the state championship to represent Whitefish Bay and Wisconsin at the regional level, coach Carl Biancuzzo told TMJ4.

On Friday, the team won its first regional game 13-5 against Nebraska, before dropping close games 3-2 to North Dakota on Saturday and a tough walk-off 2-1 loss to Iowa on Monday.

Game recaps

Down 4–0 after the first inning in their first game, Whitefish Bay stormed back with a six-run third inning, highlighted by Carter Lohse’s two-RBI single to take the lead. Lohse also pitched the first 3.2 innings, with Matthew Feldbruegge and Grandt Schwartz shutting things down in relief. Dominic Biancuzzo led the offense with three hits, while Logan Seewald added two. In total, Wisconsin tallied 10 hits and 7 walks, showing strong discipline at the plate.

On Saturday, Whitefish Bay took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning behind hits from Dominic Biancuzzo and Carter Lohse, but North Dakota answered in the fourth and held on for a narrow 3-2 win. Grandt Schwartz pitched over five strong innings for Wisconsin, giving up just two earned runs. Lohse led the team at the plate, going 2-for-2.

In the third game, Whitefish Bay fell 2-1 to Iowa on a walk-off double in the bottom of the sixth at the Central Region Headquarters on Monday. Logan Seewald drove in the team’s lone run in the second, but Iowa tied it in the third and won it late. Dominic Biancuzzo pitched 5.2 strong innings, allowing two runs and striking out two. Seewald and James Granitz each had a hit, and Whitefish Bay played error-free defense, turning one double play.

State Championship Victory

The road to the regional tournament was powered by an outstanding performance from pitcher Carter Lohse, who dominated on the mound with a six-inning gem that sealed the title for his team. Lohse’s confidence has been building throughout the tournament run, particularly after their crucial pool play victory over Kenosha.

Coach Biancuzzo attributes much of the team’s success to their fundamental strengths on both sides of the ball. “This team is one of the defensive little teams that you will find. We play defense, and we hit. When we’re doing both at the same time, we are virtually unstoppable,” he said.

The U12 team’s success is part of a broader wave of baseball excellence in Whitefish Bay this summer: The community’s U13 team also made their mark by winning their regional tournament and advancing to compete in the 50/70 World Series currently taking place in California. The Whitefish Bay Little League Juniors won the Wisconsin State Tournament, qualifying them to represent Wisconsin in the Central Division Juniors Regionals in Midland, MI.

The regional tournament represents what Coach Biancuzzo called “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” and if their state championship performance is any indication, Whitefish Bay is ready to make the most of it.
